Sam was born and raised in Southern California. At the age of 18, he left home and went to Dordt College in Iowa where he graduated with a degree in Graphic Design in the year of 2000. After he graduated, he served in a church in Northern California for three years working with students in grade 6 through 12. Feeling a call to Campus Ministry, Sam went back to Iowa, working at Dordt as a part time resident director and part time campus pastor. After four enjoyable years, Sam moved on and started his Master’s of Divinity Degree at Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Michigan. In the second year of his program, Sam meet Darcie through a mutual friend and were married a short time later. Sam moved to Calgary, and with his wife Darcie did a one year internship at the University of Calgary. In the summer of 2010, Sam started working as a Chaplain at UBC – Okanagan—a new campus ministry connected in multiple ways with the Well. Sam loves working with university students and is exicted to be a part of what God is doing on the campus, in the church, and in the community.
Sam also loves cycling, drawing, mint tea, gardening, the Biggest Loser, and toast.
